Hasanamba Temple in Hassan ,Karnataka
Hasanamba Temple Dharshan Starts from today 16-10-2014
Though there are hundreds of temples that are historically and religiously significant to many people in the Hassan district of Karnataka, the Hasanamba temple dedicated to Shakti is particularly significant and unique in many ways.
Hasanamba Temple - Overview
The name Hasanamba has been given to the Goddess at the Hasanamba Temple and the town too is named after the presiding deity as she is perceived to be ever smiling, bestowing all riches on her devotees. The temple is open to the public for a week, once a year in the month of Ashwayuja, during Diwali in October. So devotees flock here to seek the Goddess’ blessings during this week. This is the best time to visit the temple.
Hasanamba Temple – History
The temple is believed to have sprung up sometime around the 12th century, though no one knows exactly when or how it came to be. There is an ant-hill representing the presiding deity inside the temple premises and because the temple is opened for only a week a year, it is all the more special to obtain a darshan during the festival.
Hasanamba Temple – Architecture
Archeological experts consider the Hasanamba Temple in Hassan to be the epitome of temple architecture in Karnataka. The city of Hassan dates back to the 11th century and the temples around Hassan signify the various dynasties that have ruled ever since the 11th century. It was originally built by the Hoysala dynasty in their tradition, reflecting their faith in Jainism. The temples in the Hassan district are some of the finest examples of the Hoysala tradition of temple architecture.
Hasanamba Temple – Religious Significance
The temple is unusual in that it is open to the devotees only for a week every year. The rest of the time the Goddess is left with a lit lamp, flowers, water and two bags of rice as offering until the next year. Every year the opening of the temple is celebrated with festivals and fairs.
Hasanamba temple – Mythology
The devotees believe that the benevolent Goddess smiles down upon them and showers her blessings. In many Indian languages, ‘hasya’ means humor. It is believed that the Goddess smiles down on the devotees who worship her.
How to Get to Hasanamba Temple
The Hasanamba temple is located about 38 kilometers from the city of Hassan and can easily be reached by road from Hassan in an auto rickshaw. It is just a couple of hours away from Bangalore by road and is convenient as a weekend getaway with plenty of accommodation options available.
Hasanamba Temple - Facts
There is an unusual image depicting Ravana from the Ramayana with nine heads instead of ten, playing the veena. The reason for this image in the inner sanctum sanctorum is unknown but very interesting nevertheless.

Riches are needed to secure any article in the world. With riches, one can acquire any possession at any time, so it follows that the riches are superior to the objects obtained. So too, it is by the wealth of the Divine Name that the article, the Divine Form, is to be earned. If the riches of the Divine Name are steadily accumulated, the Lord can be realised through the path of meditation, easily and without difficulty. -BABA.

Thought for the Day - 7th May - 2011
Dharma is universal. There is a test that may be applied to any action to determine if it is according to Dharma. Let not your deeds harm or injure another. This flows from the recognition that the divine spark is the same in every form, and if you injure another you are injuring the same divinity that is in yourself. Dharma enables you to come to the recognition that anything that is bad for another form is also bad for you. The test of Dharmic action is stated very clearly in saying: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you".

Revere your mother and Motherland. This is the teaching that our scriptures have been propagating since ages. The Vedas say “Maathru devo bhava”, revere your mother as God. This applies even to your country of birth, your motherland. Revere your country and follow its culture. Revere your mother, who has brought you up with love, care and sacrifice. However famous one may be, if one does not revere one’s mother, one is not deserving of respect. A person whose heart is so hard that it does not melt at the pleadings of the mother deserves nothing but ridicule.

Cultivate the atmosphere of love and cooperation, and you can ensure joy for ever more. Seek ways of working together for the common good. Ahamkaaram and Mamakaaram - the sense of I and Mine - these scotch love and cooperation. Reduce them to the minimum and then start serving the needy and the distressed. Service is best built on the strong foundation of Tat Tvam Asi (That thou art). There is no other; there is only One. Many kites fly high; but the same air keeps all of them aloft. The pots of water in which the Sun is reflected may be many, but the Sun is One and remains unaffected even when the pots break or the water is dried up. Understand that all help you render is therefore help given to yourself; all service is to the Self alone.

Atma is like the control room. Once you gain access to the ‘control room’, all your senses and the mind will be under your control. When the main switch of the house is turned on, the bulbs in all the rooms will glow. The Atma is like the main switch and the senses are like the bulbs in different rooms. These rooms are of your own making. Each room is separated from the other by a wall. Once the walls are demolished, only one big hall remains. Body attachment is like the wall that separates one from the other and which comes in the way of realizing the Self. Once this wall is broken down, you will realize the infinite and immortal Self.

Love should not be rationed, on the basis of caste, creed or economic status, or intellectual attainment of the recipient. It should flow full and free, regardless of consequence, for, it is one's nature of love, to seek out the dry dreary wastes, which love can water and make fertile.

Like food to a starving man, like showers on a parched field, the Vedic science of spiritual self-discovery is the life-giving succour for a society that is sliding down to destruction having lost its hold on truth, morality, peace and love. You are the instruments in the spread of Vedic truth among the farthest corners of this vast land; you are the chosen ones! You have to show by precept and by example that the path of self-realization is the path to perfect joy. On you lies a great responsibility; the responsibility of demonstrating by your calmness, composure, humility, purity, virtue, courage and conviction under all circumstances, that the Sadhana (spiritual practices) you follow has made you a better, happier and more useful person. Practice and demonstrate, do not simply assert in words and deny in deeds.

Saturate every breath of yours with love. Love knows no fear. Fear drags man into falsehood, injustice and evil. Love does not crave for praise. Only those who have no Love in them itch for reward and reputation. Love is its own reward. When you are eager to place offerings before the Lord, let it be love instead of mere material objects. Love is no merchandise; do not bargain about its cost. Let it flow clear from the heart, as a stream of Truth, a river of wisdom. Let it not emanate from the head, nor from the tongue. Let it emerge, full and free, from the heart.

Thought for the Day - 30th April - 2011
When God assumes human form and is behind you, before you and beside you, speaking to you and moving with you, and allowing you to cultivate attachment of various kinds with Him, you do not recognise Him. We should not be misled into the belief that He is just human and nothing more. We generally forget the Truth. The Divine proclaims, "I am not a mass of flesh and blood; I am not a bundle of desires, which the mind is, I am not the heap of delusion which the imagination is; I am the Paramaathma (Supreme Soul), the Origin and the End." I am the urge within you, the knowledge that you seek as a result of the urge, of your own self.

For the bird flying over the deep, blue waters in mid-ocean the only resting place is the mast of a ship sailing in those waters. In the same way, the Lord is the only refuge for the man who is tossed about in the stormy seas of this world. However far the bird may fly, it knows where it can find rest and that knowledge gives it confidence. The Name of the Lord is like that mast; remember it always, associate it with the Form and have that Form fixed in the mind's eye. It is a lamp shedding light in the recesses of your heart. Have the Name on the tongue and it will drive away the inner darkness as well as the outer.

Sri Sathya Sai Baba :SPECIAL MUSING CONCERNING SWAMI’S HEALTH - Must see Video clips
PLEASE WATCH THIS CLIP CAREFULLY. It is extremely relevant to the present situation and tells us more clearly than any human can, what ought to be done.
Swami Speaks about His Body from RadioSai on Vimeo.
Nobody needs to be worried or anxious about Swami's wellbeing. No danger can ever befall Swami. Swami will always come out of all difficulties and troubles unscathed; none need to fear or feel sorry or sad. Swami will achieve all success. However, there may be some changes at the physical level because of the food, environment, etc. These however are only temporary and not permanent. Hence, Swami expects you to be always courageous.
What is My medicine? The intense prayers of the devotees are My medicine. During this period, be it in Madras (now Chennai), Hyderabad, Bangalore, or Mumbai, devotees have intensified their prayers and spiritual activities. There are bhajans and namasmarana conducted in each and every home. Some devotees undertook penance and performed yajnas. In this manner, a number of spiritual activities were undertaken praying for the wellbeing of Swami. It is as a result of such fervent prayers that I am able to stand before you and address you today.
Neither did I want this suffering nor did I desire its cure. You wanted this body to be cured of the pain, and you achieved it through your prayers. This body is not Mine. It is yours. Hence, it is your responsibility to look after this body. I am not the deha (body); I am the Dehi (Indweller).
The body is made up of five elements
And is bound to perish sooner or later,
But the Indweller has neither birth nor death.
The Indweller has no attachment whatsoever
And is the Eternal Witness.
Truly speaking, the Indweller,
Who is in the form of the Atma,
Is verily God Himself.
Doctors made every possible effort to protect this body; they did their duty. I however did not think of this body at all. I demonstrate the ideal that one should not have body attachment. Not only now, for the last two years, I have been repeatedly exhorting you to give up body attachment. Gradually reduce your dehabhimana (body consciousness) and develop Atmabhimana (Atmic consciousness). You are not the body; you are the embodiments of the Atma. The physical body comes and goes. Only the body has suffering, not the Atma.
I have never used My divine power to cure Myself. If I were to use it, I would have been cured of the suffering in a trice. I don't have the selfish feeling that I should get cured. There is not even a trace of selfishness in Me. Everyone should be happy. This is My only desire.
- Extracts from Divine Discourse delivered on July 13, 2003.
Dear reader, Bhagawan has said it all, and there is little else for me to do except to call attention to the words of the Lord, every one of which appears to have been said not only with respect to earlier events, but also in anticipation of the present ones.
Thank you and Jai Sai Ram.

How do you accumulate the wealth of character? You cannot exist without activity, so you must, of necessity, act through good qualities. You must curb all desires and become free. The mind filled with good qualities will help you in this process, for it will bear other’s prosperity gladly. It will give up doing injury; it will seek opportunities to help, heal, and foster. It will not only suffer; it will also pardon. It will not incline towards the false; it will be on the alert to speak the truth. It will remain unruffled by lust, greed, anger, and conceit; it will be free from delusion. It will always seek the welfare of the world. From such a mind, will flow an uninterrupted stream of love.

Thought for the Day - 26th January 2011
Today, people mistakenly think that spirituality has no relation to worldly life and vice versa. True divinity is a combination of spirituality and social obligations. National unity and social harmony are founded upon spirituality. It is the Divine that links spirituality and social existence. The Creator and the Prakriti (Creation) are inextricably associated with each other. Hence, God should not be regarded as separate from Creation. See God in the cosmos. For instance, take a tumbler made of silver. The one who notices the silver in the tumbler, thinks only of the material base and not the form of the tumbler. The one who sees it as a tumbler, may not note that it is made of silver metal. Only the person who can recognise both silver and tumbler can recognise that it is a silver tumbler. Likewise, without God, there is no creation. However, most people see only the creation; very few recognise that the creation is a projection of the Creator. It is essential that every human being should realize that without God, there can be no cosmos.

Thought for the Day - 25th January 2011
If you crave for the fruit of your acts at every step, you are overpowered by passion. If the fruit is not available, then, gradually, laxity and disgust overpower the spiritual aspirant and the repetition of the Name and meditation will slowly dry up. This is the restless, passionate, Rajasic Path. For some, the Lord will come to memory only in times of danger or acute suffering or when one is the victim of loss or pain. At such times, such a person prays and vows to arrange ritualistic worship (Puja), offer some particular food, or build a temple to the Lord, etc. One will be calculating the quantity of food placed before the Lord, the tribute offered at His feet, the number of prostrations performed, and the number of times one went around the shrine and ask for proportionate rewards! For those who adopt this attitude in meditation, and follow the dull, Thamasic path, the mind and intellect can never be pure.

In the pure, serene (Sathwic) path of meditation, you will consider repetition of the Holy Name and meditation as a duty and suffer any amount of trouble for its sake; you will be fully convinced that this world is just an illusion, so you will only do good under all conditions and at all times. You will desire only the good of all and will always love all; you will spend time uninterruptedly in the remembrance and meditation of the Lord. You will not crave even the fruit of repeating the Name and doing meditation; you will leave it all to the Lord.
